Jiajie Zheng
Currently based in London and Hangzhou.
His practice is rooted in photography, encompassing photos, photographic installations, and text. He is persistently drawn to objects that exceed the boundaries of direct perception within the fields of archaeology and science, investigating how images substitute for experience and intervene in the production of knowledge and the construction of narrative.
His work is not a record of reality, but operates through re-imagination — appropriating, collecting, and reconstructing photos and texts to transform the process of technologically mediated vision into a sensory experience that assumes the form of authority yet resists verification.
He is currently focused on the reconstruction between photo and text within archaeological contexts: through fieldwork, archival research, and the collection of sensory information, he produces a pseudo-archaeological sensory experience, revealing through the organisation of visual archives that perception itself has already been permeated by technology and collective narrative.
